ZemmourBallet’s 2026 Artists-in-Residence

Maison douce maison brings together composer and musician Josh Brown and choreographer Charles Cardin-Bourbeau. The artistic duo is being hosted by ZemmourBallet for a year-long residency dedicated to developing its new work, L’Estrie tranquille.

L’Estrie tranquille

Premiere December 18 th 2026 — Centre des arts de la scène Jean-Besré, Sherbrooke

L’Estrie tranquille is a musical cycle inspired by Quebec’s changing seasons and the landscapes of the Eastern Townships. The project is rooted in Josh Brown’s deep connection to nature and his experience of making a new home in Quebec as an immigrant.

The first compositions, gathered under the title Autumn, emerged during the pandemic, a period marked by isolation, change and introspection. Composing around the seasons became a way of moving through these upheavals and reconnecting with the surrounding world.

The complete cycle will comprise eight original compositions—two for each season—created over the course of one year and recorded with musicians from the region.

In dialogue with this musical material, Charles Cardin-Bourbeau will develop a choreographic work that gives physical form to the landscapes, rhythms and transformations evoked by the music. Movement becomes a living translation of sound and of the natural world’s cycles.

Bringing together music, dance and scenography, the work will premiere in December 2026 at the Centre des arts de la scène Jean-Besré in Sherbrooke, following the duo’s year-long residency hosted and supported by ZemmourBallet.

This encounter between musicians and dancers reflects a deeply collective vision of art. L’Estrie tranquille invites audiences to see the land—and the cycles we move through together—with renewed attention.
