Held annually in late August at Théâtre Grand-Espace, the Sherbrooke Contemporary Dance Festival celebrates choreographic creativity and artistic excellence.
Its curated program brings together works by choreographers from Québec, Canada and abroad, offering audiences the opportunity to encounter distinctive artistic voices and experience a diversity of cultures and approaches to dance.
Performances are complemented by post-show conversations with the artists, dance classes for families and activities that create meaningful pathways between the works and their audiences.
The FDCS also strengthens Sherbrooke’s artistic ecosystem by placing local artists alongside creators from elsewhere and providing them with a professional platform on which to present their work, expand their visibility and build new connections.

ImproDanse brings together dance, live music and lighting in a composition created entirely in real time. With no predetermined choreography, the artists build a work from a shared theme, their attentiveness to one another and prompts offered by the audience.
You do not simply witness the result—you enter the heart of the creative process.
Throughout the performance, audience members are invited to share words, images, sensations or constraints. These contributions become artistic material: the performers translate them into movement, the music reveals their tensions, and the lighting reshapes the space.
Everyone is free to participate or simply observe. No previous knowledge of dance is required.
Onstage, performers, musicians and lighting artists move forward without knowing where the performance will lead. Each decision reshapes what follows. Attentiveness, risk and presence become the true driving forces of creation.
ImproDanse is at once a performance, an artistic laboratory and a space of encounter between artists and audiences.
No two evenings can ever be reproduced. Each performance emerges from the singular encounter between a theme, a group of artists, an audience and a place.
In the spirit of Épaissisme, ImproDanse does not seek to simplify experience. It brings to light the relationships, tensions and possibilities that arise in the moment.
ImproDanse welcomes both first-time dance audiences and those already familiar with contemporary creation. You may come to participate, observe the artists at work or simply allow yourself to be moved by what emerges.
Come with your perspective, your ideas and your curiosity. Your presence will become part of a work that can happen only once.

The new creation is a plunge into the heart of what makes a society: bonds, conflicts, and the desires for freedom and coming together. A powerful, inhabited, and deeply human work of Épaissiste dance.
The evening begins with the Popular Academy of Art, a space for exchange and reflection open to all.
